Shri Pushkarrai Kalyanji Jani: A Life Journey in the Light of Vedic Scriptures
In 1953, a child was born into an ordinary but distinguished Brahmin family in Gorakhdi, Jamjodhpur. Little did anyone know that this child would dedicate his entire life to the propagation and preservation of Sanskrit and Vedic knowledge.
Early Years and Educational Journey
His father, Kalyanji Jani, wished that one of his three children would continue the traditional path of ritual practices. Accordingly, Shri Pushkarrai was sent to Shri Krishna Sanskrit Pathshala in Bet Dwarka for his early education.
However, life’s realities were not so simple. In the initial days, struggling for both sustenance and knowledge, Shri Pushkarrai attempted to flee the school. But his guru stopped him with warm and understanding words. The guru arranged for his meals at the main temple of Bet Dwarka and assigned him service responsibilities at a nearby temple, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Shri Pushkarrai’s life.
Academic and Spiritual Pursuit
In 1966, his educational journey began at Shri Krishna Sanskrit Pathshala-Bet Dwarka, which took him through Narayan Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya-Petlad, Banaras Hindu University, and finally to Bangiya Sanskrit Bhavan in Kolkata. Here, he deeply studied Sanskrit grammar and Vedic sciences during a comprehensive 14-year academic period.
Despite having job opportunities at the university, he honored his father’s wishes and started his career as a traditional Brahmin performing rituals. He took a unique vow to perform only Vedic rituals, avoiding marriage-related ceremonies, funeral rites, and narrative-based rituals.
Turning Points and Diversification
A significant event occurred when he experienced throat problems that affected his voice. During this challenging time, he decided to learn astrology. Under the guidance of the renowned royal astrologer Shri Tulshishankarji, he quickly mastered the art of creating horoscopes and predictions, completing a course that typically takes 1.5 years in just eight months.
Santoshanand Sanskrit Pathshala
In 1978, Shri Pushkarrai established the Santoshanand Sanskrit Pathshala at his residence. Starting with merely four students, the school has since produced numerous scholars recognized nationally and internationally. Thousands of students have acquired scholarly knowledge from this institution.
The school’s name has an interesting backstory. As Shri Pushkarrai taught students, he experienced profound inner satisfaction and joy. Satisfaction from carrying forward his father’s legacy through learning and dedication, and joy from empowering students economically and intellectually through Vedic knowledge.
Principles and Dedication
He established strict principles for the school’s development, such as not performing rituals outside, eating only after school hours, and never compromising the school’s interests for personal or family matters. His family also made significant sacrifices, often sitting outside their small home while it was filled with students.
